The RNC and its embedded NSEC have been the recipient of a significant level of public funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR).  Los Alamos National Laboratory has been a research partner since the inception of the RNC’s NSEC.

The RNC has a number of first-rate educational partners. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Columbia University and the University of South Carolina are active research partners in RNC programs. Senior faculty representatives from Cornell University, Columbia University, the University of Wisconsin– Madison, the University of California–Santa Barbara, and the California Institute of Technology served on the NSEC's External Visiting Committee.

Morehouse College, Mount Holyoke College, Oberlin College, Smith College, Spelman College, the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, and Williams College were partners in our 10-year long diverse Primarily Undergraduate Institutions Program to serve outstanding under-represented groups in science.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (New York) High School has been a partner in the RNC's efforts to foster awareness of nanotechnology at the secondary school level. The Children's Museum of Science and Technology is a partner in disseminating the RNC's message about nanotechnology throughout New York’s capital region and the state.
